This past June, my Ike turned 6 years old. I had always been told that when a dachshund hits around 5 years of age, that they begin to slow waaaay down, and start to gain weight. But not Ike. He didn't start slowing down until just the past couple of months. Thank goodness no weight has been gained as of yet (we're really careful about his diet anyway...).
He likes to sleep. All. The. Time. And play? What is that?? He only wants to REALLY play a few times a week. Half the time he just looks at us and if he could, he'd roll his eyes when we tried to get him going. So....what do his days look like? I just recently thought of all of it and came up with the following. I asked for his input and some of this is in his own words.
6:30am: Up with dad. Needs to pottys. ASAP.
6:35am: Back inside. Freakin' frackin' freezing.
6:36am: Klink klank the food bowl. Not hungrys right now. Just want to make sure it gets filled, dangit!
6:40am: Dad filled the bowl. Back up the stairs to bed with mom. Jump on my very own step stool into bed and into the warm covers.
6:41am - 12:00pm: SLEEP...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
12:01pm: DAD'S HOME FOR LUNCH! OMG, I HAVE NOT SEEN DAD IN FOREVERZ!!
12:02pm: Outside to tinkles.
12:05pm: Inside. Eat breakfast.
12:06pm-2:30: Back up to bed....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz
2:31pm: ZOMG. MAIL MAN/UPS MAN?!?! *BARK BARK BARK BARK*
2:35pm - 3:59pm: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
4:00pm: MOMS HOME! Outside to pottys!
4:05pm: Back inside. Must sit under afghan on the sofa. zzzzzz......
5:15pm: DAD'S HOME! Must stand by food bowl. CLANK CLANK CLANK.
5:17pm: Eatings!
5:25pm: Must sit under afghan on the sofa. zzzzzz......
9:30pm: Pottys again!
10:00pm: BED TIME! YAY! SLEEP! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Looks obnoxious, I know. But seriously, this dog has turned into a sleeping machine.

First, you put this stupid t-shirt on me...Now you embarrass me on the internetz. They now think I am a good for nothing, lazy, bum!

Simon just turned 7 on the 1st, and the family is still waiting for the mellow golden years to kick in. Sleeping as always been his best talent, but he still acts very much like a boisterous puppy when given the chance :) Cute shirt Ike!!
Really? They calm down??
Miss Molly Jane has been curled up next to the radiator all day sleeping. She has no interest in anything else right now! But I'm sure at 9pm she'll be ready to go! Thank goodness for play dates. Where did the cute shirt come from?
Yep that would be my 9yo, all play and no sleep makes Bubbles a dull girl...
Ike plays around some still. :) But it has slowed significantly. While he drove me crazy when he was younger, I miss his craziness!
My Dachshund Tito does the same EXACT thing. This post made me laugh the whole way through!!!
