Pumpkins: Halloweenie Style

For a few days, I tried to describe, in words, the process of turning these pumpkins into doggy masterpieces. But I haven't a clue how to do that. Hopefully the lack of words and the over-abundance of pictures walks you through the process! What it won't tell you? Is that it took 3 freaking hours to do these. YES, IT DID. And numerous visits into the closet with a flashlight to check the areas that only had skin peeled off (IE. was the area thin enough?? make it thinner? Crap.)

It also involved 2 cranberry vodkas on my end. Otherwise, I might have gotten bored. :) Ha! Ike and Atlas are not pictured, but they were at our feet the whole time, waiting for bits of pumpkin innards to fall for their consumption!

The dachshund and lab patterns were just two of many adorable patterns offered at Better Homes & Gardens.

That's crazy how well they turned out! I certainly wouldn't have made it through the process - that's for sure...

Awesome! I saw the same pattern and would have loved to make similar pumpkins.....although, maybe minus the whole taking 3 hours! That is a lot of work!! Hahaha.....

We didn't do any pumpkin carving because pumpkins here in Chile are not even close to the same as the ones in the States. The wall of the zapallo, as they call it, is super thick and hard to cut.

Thanks for all the nice comments! They were so much fun to do! His parents kept us going with drinks and loads of food. We took a few breaks so that's probably why it took us SO long!

Ben: you would have made it through with the cocktails my father in law serves up. It was like a freaking party...

Great pumpkins! I didn't see any dachshund patterns until after we'd already carved our pumpkins, but I saved one for next year. I don't know that I'll have the patience to make a pumpkin per doxie, so I may just do one for all three of them.
