[In an effort to make sure that we never even come close to the numbers indicated in our blog header, I am very proud to announce that we have a new contributor joining our team today from South America! That means we're officially blogging from three continents which is pretty awesome. Please give a warm welcome to Tyffanie - Ben]
I never thought I’d become a mom before the age of 25, but just a few months shy of turning a quarter-of-a-century I did become one…to a long haired mini-dachshund named Dulcinea. My husband, Christian, and I have are now completely immersed in puppy parenthood.
I never thought I’d become a mom before the age of 25, but just a few months shy of turning a quarter-of-a-century I did become one…to a long haired mini-dachshund named Dulcinea. My husband, Christian, and I have are now completely immersed in puppy parenthood.
Originally from Colorado, I now call Chile home. Yes, that long and slender country at the end of South America? There. Nestled in its capital right between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. My husband is Chilean and we met while I was here studying abroad in 2006. Even though I’ve been here for more than two years, I am constantly discovering new things about this country & its culture. I like to document my Chilean adventures in my personal blog, which of course has many a story about our new baby.
(Duclinea and I on her first night home with us.)
I’ve been a doxie fan since around the age of nine when my parents got a long-haired tweenie named Rudy, for his red nose that reminded us of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Ever since then, dachshunds have been my dog of choice. My husband wasn’t so keen on them until meeting my parents’ current doxie (Dunkun) during his first trip to the US. Now he finds them just as irresistible as I do!
But enough about us, what about Duclinea? She is a black and tan long-haired mini, born on June 3, 2009 to her biological parents in el campo (countryside) of Chile. How we came to adopt her is quite the story, one that I’ll be saving for my first post on Who’s Your Dachshund. When you first meet her, she might be a bit shy, but after a few minutes you won’t be able to stop her from giving you muchos besos (lots of kisses)! She loves to steal socks and slippers and while we try to call the shots in the household, she seems to be winning such title—especially when it comes to sleeping in bed with us at night! Without further ado, I officially present to you Dulcinea…
(Just a bit over 4 months old in this photo taken by my husband.)
