It's FINALLY fall in Texas - it FINALLY stopped raining - and it's perfect. Sun, temps near 80 ... ahhhh yes. The dogs and I spent some time outside the other day and Thor and Fred were on squirrel patrol.
This weekend we really will be hunting - we'll be at the DFW Dachshund Club's fall earthdog test! Earthdog is a test for dachshunds and small terriers where they track, find and alert to prey in underground tunnels. Rats are the quarry, and don't worry, they're not harmed. They usually look pretty bored down there, actually.
If your dogs are hunters or squirrel patrollers, earthdog may be a fun event for them - and for you! I think it's awesome to watch a dog doing what its instincts tell it to do. Any purebred dachshund can enter as long as they have an AKC number or an AKC PAL/ILP registration.
Fred needs one Q for his junior earthdog title. It would be his first title, so here's to hoping!

Good Luck Courtney and Fred! HOpe you get your Q this weekend.
Ha! I always laugh when we go to the big, forested dog park and our boys have absolutely no awareness of the wildlife that's all around them. I swear the chipmunks are laughing behind their backs.
We need an update! How did Fred do? It was a great weekend for a trial.
