Eggs and a bet

I have a confession. We have never had any food issues with Rusty and Lila. Some of you probably want to punch me in the face now, because I know some of you have had trouble getting your pups adjusted to a certain diet/food.

Since the beginning, they pretty much ate what we gave them and they didn't over eat either. They'd each get their portion of dry dog food and eat until they were full and more often than not there would be food left over which they'd nibble on for the rest of the day. They're healthy, shiny and at the perfect weight.

Like I said, we've never had any trouble.

Sometimes we spice up their dry food with a few pieces of veggies or fruit or a meal enhancer, just for taste you know? And ever since I read Courtney's raw feeding post I have been aching to try raw egg.

Jaco wasn't very keen on the idea at all but eventually I convinced him and we made a bet. He said that they weren't going to touch it and I said they were going to love it. R50 to the winner.

Guess who won?

I have never seen Rusty that excited about food (and that's saying something), Lila kept her eyes trained on her bowl and the only sounds in the room was the sounds of the bowls being nudged across the floor, being licked clean and J's palpable disbelief.

They loved it!

Even after the bowls were empty Rusty would go back every few minutes as if hoping that the bowl had magically filled itself again.

I'm glad we have another option because I want them to be excited about their food!

Awesome!! I really haven't met a dog who dislikes eggs! Try some canned salmon, sardines or mackerel next - they'll go crazy!

Our guys get a water packed sardine as a special treat with their dinner. They love it and there's lots of fish oil and calcium in them which is great for them.

They also love the left over edge wash form making French Toast. I've never seen a dachshund turn down anything egg based - which is helpful when I drop the occasional egg on the floor. Instant clean up crew!

I have never seen my babies NOT eat anything (including, clothes, tissues, plastic, peppers, poo) EXCEPT IAMS dogfood. My Dad came to visit and said his chiweenie wouldn't eat it and I sad, My dogs will eat ANYTHING! Well, they won't!
