My husband and I have been away from home quite a bit lately. Adley does not really like this--as soon as he hears the thump of our suitcases, he races into the bedroom and jumps off of the ottoman and onto the bed.
To him, our suitcases represent everything bad in this world. Though he gets to go be spoiled by grandparents, he loathes our departures. Last time we were packing, he jumped into the suitcases and stayed in them until we were nearly done. He doesn't take up much space, you know.
This was the face he was making when he first realized I was packing:
I think he was trying to stop us from going--why else would he look so fierce?
When he calmed down, he went back to normal:
He doesn't know it yet, but he is going with us on our next trip, so his suitcase hopping won't be all for nothing!
How do your pups react when you start packing for a trip?

My husband and I took an over night trip this weekend. I always have a house sitter for the dogs...so there is always someone there for them. When Sharkie saw my suitcase...he sniffed and rooted through the items. When it was time for us to leave...i told them dogs to go to "bed" and i went to pick him up to say goodbye....he would not even look at me! poor little lad! When we got home last night...he was all over me and gave me a thousand kisses...i guess he got over it after all...lol
Oskar can feel a change in the household "force" and becomes clingy and whines. He'll run to the door with us in hope of stopping or joining us. I've even taken to loading the car when he is outside, so that he doesn't get worked up. We have wonderful friends with two mini poodles who take great care of him while we're gone, but if I have to board him at the vet, its not a good time. He always comes back with the top of his nose raw and bloodied (from shoving it under the door to the pen) his voice is gone (from screaming, I'm sure) and he'll have lost weight and smells bad. I hate this! Yet the office girls say that all was well and they "gave him lots of pets and hugs", all at an additional play-time cost. Bravo Sierra!! I don't blame him for disliking the suitcases!
My Doxie Skippy and my Yorkie Bailey know that I am going somewhere when I start gathering my luggage by the front door. They climb on top of my bags (which is hard for Skippy since he's paralyzed!) and they stay there...even overnight if necessary! Not even the promise of treats can lure them away! Most of the time they get to go with me since I usually just go to the lake house, but they want to make sure that they are ready to go when I walk out the door!
This is sooo cute. Romeo would also get on my suitcases whenever I took them out of the closet. Awww
AWWWW omg! SO adorable.
I don't really leave on vacation very often when we don't take the dogs!
But I can tell you: sometimes I go out on the town with my good friend, and it's basically the only time I see her. The dogs have learned that when she comes over, muddah will be leaving soon. They both get super whiny and needy. Suddenly they want to be fed again, or go outside, or you name it....

They always know!!
Our girls (2 dachies) detest our travel. As soon as they see the luggage (who says dogs can't apply rationale thought), they get very agitated and pouty. One even wittles on the floor next to the luggage...her way of saying F**k you!
Our dachshund acts the exact same way... except hers is out of excitement, because we always take her with us. She loves traveling and going on road trips. She even has a special road trip blanket for the car.
The only thing that clues my boys in is when the crate starts making its way to the front door. Then the goose-like honks begin...
These are great stories! They really do just know. It's definitely going to throw them for a loop tomorrow after the first hour of driving--they are usually dropped off by that point!
My pooch goes insane when he sees my suitcase, and gets even worse when he sees his dog carrier (which I have to hide in the suitcase). I pulled it out one evening for a flight the next morning, and he sat in it until I shut the lights and went to bed. As soon as I woke up, he was bag in the bag. Whether he's staying or coming, travel freaks him out.
