Displays of affection

One of the things I love about having Rusty and Lila around is seeing the way the change. Not in a profound meaning of the word, just little habits and quirks that they develop as time passes.

Lila has taken to telling me off. Usually when she wants attention and it's so freaking adorable!
It starts with the scratching of my leg. When I feel her little paw clawing at me through my pant leg my heart can't help but melt. So I give her a little attention.

As soon as I go back to doing whatever I was busy with I hear little growls.

Then comes the barking. And the furious wagging of a tail.

She keeps at this until I get level with her and give her kisses and hugs.

And that's when my heart almost explodes it's so full of love.

As Jasmine has slowly come out of her shell, she has become much more affectionate--and demanding of my attention. Just like Lila, it starts with a little paw here or there, or even a poke by a cold, wet nose. Then it escalates into a waggy tail and a little jump up on my leg. Or, if I'm on the computer, she sits about 3 feet away and "spy hops" so I can see her (rump on the ground and a little hop up with her front paws). If I continue to let her go unnoticed, she barks a little bark--just once. Looking at her...oh, your description that "my heart almost explodes its so full of love" is the perfect phrase. It's exactly how I feel when I see that little face full of happiness. I know we give our dogs great lives, but I have a sneaky suspicion that we get much more out of the relationship.

Since the moment we got in the car after picking Theo up, he has been incredibly independent. He sat in the backseat by himself, quite happily, and has checked in every now and then moreso than followed our every footsteps since coming home with us.

As he's gotten older though, he's changing to soak up all the love he can possibly get and I couldn't be any happier about it. If I take so much as one step in his direction, he's rolling onto his back for bellyrubs.

He also doesn't know how to jump on or off of things (thankfully), so if he's waiting for you and you look his way? You had best believe a fierce tail wag and chirps of excitement are headed in your direction.

Recently my lil pupstress, Missy, has been waiting for me at the front window any time I come home. It's ridiculously adorable! The saddest part is when I leave and she paws at the window, like she is just gonna scratch right through and come with me. It's pitiful, and I love it. She's not a dachshund though:( can I still be your friend?
