How many of you have heard of the Snuggie - a product for people constantly thwarted by the complexity of regular blankets?
Yes, I snickered right along with you when I heard about it myself, but I do have to give the company props for giving me a good laugh and starting up a proper internet subculture. There are seriously people who don't just go out in public wearing what are essentially backwards robes, but do so en mass in the form of pub crawls and group Snuggie events!
Right. So how does this belong on a dachshund blog? Well...let me show you...
That's right! As some of you may have heard from our friends at The Long & Short of it All, they are officially selling Snuggies for Dogs!
Thanks to Calvin and Theo's combined internet fame - seriously, how are they more famous than I am at this point? I'm pretty sure I do all the bloody work! - we were sent a family sized package of people AND dog snuggies to review.
While Theo certainly loves the feel of the fabric more when it's in his mouth than when it's on his body, I am happy to report that it takes less time for him to settle down in the Snuggie than it does with other doggie apparel that we have on hand for cold, Canadian winters. Calvin of course is happy to put on anything that adds to his impressive ability as a dog furnace and space heater.
I'm not convinced that they'd be ideal for outdoor use since the legs are pretty long for their short legs but it might hold up on a strictly sidewalk outing without getting too filthy. Aside from the legs though, the Snuggie does cover from neck to bum without having so much fabric that it's drags on the ground. Much appreciated by the dachshunds!
I was able to snap a collection of pics of the boys for their first Snuggie facilitated snuggle which happened about 38 seconds after getting them on. Enjoy and check out SnuggieForDogs if you're interested in picking up one for your pooch!

We've been waiting in anticipation for this great review, nice! Those photos make us want to snuggle up with Calvin and Theo. But wait, where's the photo of Ben in his Snuggie?
I lost my Snuggie privileges because I kept insisting everyone refer to me as a Wizard. Apparently that can be grating for those that live with me on day three or four.
:(
I think I'll wait. I ran right out and purchased Flappies based on your recommendation and Murphy ate three of them in a days time. We already have to hide our audult Snuggie as one corner is already shredded!
Understandable. I'm surprised that our Fleecey Flappy is still alive while the Tuffy one died a month ago. Shocked even!
OMG this made my morning! My dogs would love a snuggie :)
Since we live in a place, Houston, TX, that rarely has weather cold enough to warrant anything but their furry bodies, I will just laugh along with the photos!
OMG - thanks for a great laugh for my morning work day! :-) Makes me want to put a Snuggie on my Forest and snuggle up with him all day! Love Calvin and Theo BTW; they are adorable!
Coco can use a Snuggie too! She keeps on loosing her blanket at night.
I. Must. Have. One.
Well, two.
Too cute! I really thought you were kidding about dog snuggies when you mentioned it on your blog!
Can you please just give Calvin and Theo HUGE hugs and A LOT of kisses for me? Because they look so freaking adorable. Aww, I wish you didn't live so far away so our pups can play together and stuff. *pout*
Your dogs are amazingly cute. And little dog wizards, who could want more out of life?
this is totally insane! hahahaha! As much as my friends and I make fun of the original Snuggie (aka, the backwards robe), I don't think I could get away with one of these on my dog. That, and I don't think he would go for it, either.
If you like the snuggy, you'll LOVE the TeckelKlub dog sweaters. They're made specificly for long dogs with short legs. They do not have leg holes, so your dog will not get their legs caught up...and they're made of warm fleece. They're pretty amazing.
The fuzzie is my favorite style: http://www.teckelklub.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=32&osCsid=fa5f7a27cd28efe2c351a8caba629dbb
Well...if they sent you a package with one for a person in it, too...Where's the picture of that? :)
You know...a big happy family in snuggies?
