Brotherly puppy love

The only greater thing about having a friend with dogs living in the same city, is that the friend has one of your dog's siblings. That's how it is with Ben.

Tofu and Calvin haven't always been the best of friends. They, perhaps like all brothers, went through a phase of tolerating each other between horseplay and shows of dominance. Their last vacation together (which wound up lasting about three weeks between two houses) really brought to light the brotherly love that has grown between the two though.

There's just no pillow like a brother's noggin.

Let's just not get a girl dog between them.

Do you have siblings dogs in your house or living in the same city? If so, how do they get along?

My two, Mimsy and Willow are litter mates. Oddly enough, we got Mimsy first at 1.5 yrs, last fall. We had our old Aussie at the time, and thought one young dog would be enough for her. The breeder was hesitant to separate the two sisters, but she did. All was fine. Then, this past winter, we lost our Aussie to cancer. We thought we needed another large dog, but made the right decision and got Mimsys' sister, Willow, this spring. The breeder was thrilled that they would be back together. And I can see why. They are wonderful together... the play is so cute. It's the best thing we could have done. We are so lucky to have such sweet girls that are so good to each other.

Ha! Theo tends to be far more the ladies man than Calvin thus far. Although Calvin did have a fleeting romance with a King Charles Cavalier that was largely unreturned.

So sweet! I wish I knew if Adley had siblings around here. He was the last of his litter because the kids of his breeder would hide him every time someone came to look at the puppies. Lucky for us! I would have loved to have met his siblings at the same time, but I think I would have gone home with too many pups.

Lila and Rusty have the same daddy, but I haven't really kept contact with the person we got them from (they moved abroad soon after apparently) so we haven't seen their siblings since.

We adopted Riley last fall, and just this past weekend I found an older, extremely fat dachshund at our local shelter. This poor little guy weighs 11 lbs and most likely is 5 lbs overweight! His teeth are in such horrible shape that several of them will have to come out. I took Riley to visit him, and they mostly ignored each other. I haven't decided whether to take him in, but the little dude is haunting my dreams. No kidding, I think about him all the time and feel so incredibly sorry for him!

For those of you who have "multiples", how did you decide to bring in another dog, and how in the world did the integration process go? I'm worried that Riley would be heartbroken to have to share our attention. Any suggestions?

P.S. I'm posting as Anonymous because I can never get my Google account to work!!!

oy, we had sibling doxies before baxter and their teenage years were pretty rough, full of posturing and snarling to establish who was boss. looking back now, I am certain we could have done more to keep peace in the house, but such are the trials and tribulations of life's lessons. Kep and Padua were still sweet gentle doxies at heart and we miss them!

We are: It's amazing how siblings can recognize each other even after being separated. We met Tofu & Calvin's sister Moxie last summer and it was like they had never been apart.

Ben: Calvin wooed me and won me over on this last visit.

Elizabeth: Tofu and Calvin were the last of the litter and Ben & I were there on the same day to pick them up. Living in the small city of Halifax, we eventually met a couple of the other siblings at a doxie meetup.

Sleepyjane: It's great that Lila and Rusty have each other! I've definitely been contemplating a second dog but really want the relationship to be like what Tofu has with Calvin. I'm so torn..!

Kalyxcorn: Tofu and Calvin were like that in their early relationship, trying to establish who was top dog. I suppose if they had been living in the same house it would have drove me nuts but now that they're so great together it makes me think the earlier disturbances were worth it.
