Meet the Dachshunds

Looking for something?

On a side note...

I enjoy the fact that everyone who contributes to this blog is from another area of the globe. I think Chase and I are the only two who not only live in the same region, but also live in the same area. Chase introduced me to the WYD last year. When Ben asked me to become a contributor, I was thrilled.

Sometimes I feel that my love for my dogs borderlines on the creepy, he's one of "those dog owners" train of thought. I know I'm not alone!

Anywho, Chase met Jackson and Jefferson at my birthday party last year. They dressed as Tinkerbell and Peter Pan. Jefferson's cool in a dress. I figure, they get a little over affectionate (hump) each other, so what's a little gender bending?

Sorry for the green eyes, my photo editing skills are not good...

So just a little over a month ago, I met Carlisle and Easton. Good, sweet puppies. Very playful and full of energy. I really gravitate towards dachshunds and they were very happy for the attention, as their father was away. We've talked of a puppy playdate, I hope it happens soon!

I guess the Westie can be included...

They don't look too happy, do they?
I guess they just miss their dad.

The above photo was taken on my Blackberry, so sorry about the poor quality. After that picture had been sent off to Twitterland, Chase's response was: "Jonathan, put the puppies down!"

I didn't do it....

How do you react when you see dachshunds out and about?

I like to look at the markings and ask them questions about OCD behaviors...lol I like to see that they are all like mine...as far as the cocky attitude....yet sweet at the same time.

The uninitiated have used the term "lunatic" but other doxie parents usually just immediately bond.

Over the weekend, I went to Chicago's "dog beach." The weather was beautiful, so there must have been 300 dogs (plus owners) frolicing at any given moment. Near the water's edge, I noticed a small black and tan standing between his owner's ankles as the guy threw a ball into the water for his labrador. A lot goes on at the water's edge - dogs are racing back and forth; frisbees, balls and sticks flying; owners clustered, talking; dogs swimming, splashing, wading, rolling; and - of course - there's that darn water everywhere! I recognized on this little guy the same desperate look that my smooth red tweenie has at the beach, "GET ME OUTTA HERE!" She frequently heads for the back fence or finds someone's beach blanket to sit on if I'm not carrying her. I immediately went over and asked the guy if his little weenie would want to come and share our beach blanket away from the water. So, I got to spend a blissful hour with two little weens on the beach while my husband entertained our big shepherd boy and Bo's dad (Neil) focused on his lab. What do I do when I see another Dachshund? 1) melt, and 2) offer to weenie sit!

I smile, laugh, and get the urge to pet them.

I love this question! I have not seen many weenies around-hubby does. I do know that when people see my boy with me that they go nuts! Alot of the time its an older person having flashbacks to their childhood. In the last month two people who own weenie dogs have stopped me in the street to talk to me (NOT!) One guy even invited us up to his house to play! He said he has alot of land and they would love to run and play! We do end up comparing personality traits and usually they are all the same! Love the web site!

I know that my partner and I have had a couple near-miss car accidents thanks to the absolutely baby-hissy-fit we go into when we see another doxie out.. especially if it's a puppy. The "Look at the BAAAAABBIIIIIESSS!!!" can be heard from here to yonder....

I know that I've personally almost caused car accidents just by walking mine on the sidewalk. Gawking is a dangerous thing...

I can't help but point out every single dachshund I see to whoever I'm with. If it doesn't involve drastic measures, I also like to visit and insist that I play with their puppy no matter what they're doing.

Yeah. I'm THAT guy.

People are lined up to get gas. I am next in line until I spotted the Ween baby. I changed to a longer line to put me closer to her. The young girl holding her came over to the window. She would not let me hold her as she was probably worried I'd drive off with her. After all I looked rather psycho over the baby. I HAVE to see them. Love them all.

ha! I had to laugh when you mentioned being one of "those" dog owners who loved their dogs so much. I always told myself I would NEVER be one of "those" types of dog-owners. It is, after all, a DOG and not a child. And then... I brought home Jasper a few weeks ago, after a few months of anticipation. I was already in love, and I can definitely say that I am well on my way to becoming one of "those" types of dog owners!

I won't lie. I kinda sorta stalked a man in Siena, Italy. He was walking a dachshund who looked ridiculously like Adley, and we had been away from him for two weeks. I may or may not have used my zoom lens to get a closer look.

That said, I totally get it when people stop in their tracks to pet my pups. It happens a lot!
