July 29, 2008
Just a 20-something, suburban mama, to my 3 year old son LJ (who has Cerebral Palsy), my 1 year old son Noah, and long time partner with Louie. We live in Kansas City with our first, family four-legged friend, Bogey.
I’ve always been a dog lover. Growing up, I’ve had three dogs; the first a loyal standard Dachshund, Oscar, a protective, rescued mix Axel, and a Schnauzer mix, Toy. Toy lives with my mom, while the others have since passed.
One of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had was working at an animal clinic. I learned a lot about caring for animals and the costs associated with them. I was lucky enough to get out of there without adopting a few million animals, though I have been known to foster a few from time to time.
Recently, I’ve discovered a new hero, Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer. I strive to be the kind of pack leader he is, both with my dog and in my life.
Bogey was born in January 2005 and adopted into our family April 2005. He’s an 8lb, black and tan, miniature dachshund. He loves people, especially kids, since they’re more prone to play with him. He loves other dogs but tends to see himself as a much larger dog than he actually is, thus getting himself into trouble from time to time. His favorite things to do are run in the sand and play Frisbee. He hates taking baths and will opt to cuddling under a warm blanket, instead of venturing outside in the snow. And if you’re not careful, he’ll sneak into bed with you too.
